Virtual Foundational Concepts Course

Recognizing our responsibility to continue to cater to the needs of professionals entering the area of transplant quality, we are pleased to announce that the Foundational Concepts Course is moving to a virtual platform in 2025. This course serves as a valuable refresher on the basics of transplant regulations and QAPI for the new and experienced transplant quality professionals. 

Objectives for 2025 Foundations Virtual Course: 

  • Understand Transplant Rules and Regulations – Identify key regulatory requirements governing transplant programs, including CMS, OPTN, and UNOS policies. 

  • Examine Transplant QAPI Structure – Describe the components of a Transplant Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, including risk management, hospital integration, relationship building, and the PI plan. 
  • Interpret Transplant Quality Metrics – Interpret and apply transplant quality metrics, including benchmarking methodologies, data sources, and processes for retiring outdated metrics. 

  • Enhance Patient Safety Awareness – Recognize the principles of a culture of safety in transplant programs, understand CMS definitions of adverse events, and explore OPTN’s role in patient safety. 
  • Utilize Process Improvement Tools – Explain key process improvement methodologies and tools to drive quality and efficiency in transplant programs. 

  • Prepare for Regulatory Surveys – Discuss strategies for survey preparedness, including compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices for successful inspections.

Course Format: Sessions will be pre-recorded and available on-demand. Videos and presentations will be available until March 3, 2026.

Education Credits: Applications will be made to AACN, NAHQ, and ABTC.
